Event Transport Management Services - 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games
Contract Overview:
The Event Transport Management Services Delivery Project was established to plan and execute event bus services supporting the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
Delivery of the transport management program operated under a tripartite contract between National Luxury Transport (NLT)*, the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC).

The Event Transport Management contract represented the largest single transport contract awarded by TMR, requiring a peak fleet of 924 vehicles operating across four dedicated transport networks.
Recognising the scale and complexity of the project, NLT established a dedicated event transport organisation, Games LinQ, to deliver the Commonwealth Games transport contract. It was designed to co-ordinate industry partners, government agencies and operational stakeholders.
TMR and GOLDOC engaged Games LinQ to plan and deliver four specialised event transport networks

With approximately 1.5 million spectators attending the Games, public and active transport were identified as the primary access modes to Games venues. Existing public transport services across rail, light rail and urban bus routes were enhanced through a large-scale shuttle bus network connecting rail interchanges, transport hubs and Park-and-Ride sites with Games venues.
Due to the geographic constraints of the Gold Coast corridor, the transport strategy relied heavily on supplemental bus services to support heavy and light rail operations, including rail replacement services
operating along the corridor between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
More than 1.5 million spectators utilised Park-and-Ride services, shuttle buses, accessible transport services and direct coach services during the Games. Planning and delivery of the program required extensive coordination across twenty-three venues and eight local authority areas, alongside the design and operation of 45 transport hubs, park-and-ride sites and venue interchange locations.
Through co-ordinated planning, strong industry partnerships and a highly structured operational delivery model, the transport network successfully supported the movement of spectators, athletes
and workforce across the Games precinct while meeting all contract performance requirements.
